Welcome week
09/20/06 at 04:56 PM | In California | 1 CommentThis week Mon-Thu it’s welcome week here on campus. This is mostly geared towards freshmen (i.e. first-year undergraduate students), but still I took a walk through the park on Monday with the welcome fair situated there (where they happened to offer free lunch
)
Previously I had attented the introduction for new graduate students at my department, but there we were only given information and you didn’t really get to know the other students. In the afternoon a reception event for international students took place, which had some entertainment acts in it, which was quite nice. But again it was more of an information session and nothing was prepared to meet other new students. I guess that will just have to happen over time then.
Meanwhile I’ve met with my advisor and discussed my presentation for the conference in France that I will attend next week. She had some suggestions, so now I’m working on the presentation. My conference attendance (I’ll be gone 9/23-9/30) also implies that I will miss the first week of class, which means I’ll have to catch up on the stuff I miss on my own. But I think a paper in a conference is well worth it.

Hi Lars,
I am sitting in Puerto Natales in Chili in my hotel where they happen to have internet access.
It is nice reading some news from you while being close to the “end of the world”.
So I am at least catching up a bit with what’s going on with you.
BTW – it is the end of winter here and it is still pretty cold and some snow is around.
Anyway
bye for now
