Long time no post…

So it’s been a month since I last posted here. My apologies, I’ve been very busy both at school and in life. The course in probablistic learning I’m taking this quarter is interesting but involves lots of work. Next week we will have the midterm exam for that, so more studying is in order. Apart from that I’ve slowly gotten into our group’s research topics, reading articles and book chapters. And I plan to look into some smaller issues on my own soon.
On another note, my car is back from the mechanic (after dropping some $$$’s on a new transmission and clutch) and runs nicely now. This issue being solved, however, I now seem to be facing trouble with my teeth: I’ve recently visited the dentist that was assigned to me by my insurance and had the initial full exam done. Apparently my teeth are in bad shape and require quite extensive treatment — although everything was fine when I had my check-up done in Germany last September! I can’t quite believe that things are that bad, and so I am currently looking into getting a second opinion on that issue. We’ll see how that evolves…
To conclude for now, some of you may have heard that tomorrow the Super Bowl takes place, the final match of the American football championship. For my European friends: that’s not soccer ("Fußball" in German) but "American football", with the strangely shaped ball. Anyway. it’s safe to say that this is the biggest event of the year over here, a huge marketing machine has been rolling for the last weeks and pretty much everyone is really excited. One of my friends from school is hosting a Super Bowl party at his place, where we will have a barbeque, drink American beer and watch the game. It promises to be another true American experience, so I’m excited as well…
