My friends and I have been talking about it ever since we started school here last September, but we never got around to it. This quarter, however, we finally succeeded in signing up for one of the intramural sports tournaments. Teams of UCI students compete in different sports and leagues. Our team is playing in one of the men’s recreational (as opposed to competitive) call-your-own basketball leagues. There are six teams and we get to play each one in the next weeks, making it 5 ’season games’, after which we’ll hopefully proceed to the playoffs.
Anyway, we had our first match this past week, and after struggling a little in the beginning, we managed to turn the game and eventually won 50:34. Yay! Our next match is coming up this Thursday, I’ll keep you posted as the season progresses…

Santa Barbara

As promised here are some pictures of the trip that my girlfriend Teiko and I made this weekend. We drove up to to Santa Barbara on Saturday, stayed one night and returned late Sunday night.
On Saturday we walked down the main street with its stores, bars and restaurants. It eventually extends to a long pier into the Pacific, where we enjoyed the last of the sun beams. On Sunday we visited the historical Santa Barbara Mission (founded by Christian missionaries some hundred years ago) and checked out Santa Barbara’s lovely botanical garden. In the afternoon we barely made it to some wine tastings in the nearby town of Solvang — this was originally a settlement of Danish immigrants and still has some typical architecture in its town center.
All in all it was a great trip (although way too short of course), both Teiko and I had a great time. Hopefully it won’t be too long until we find time for another venture like this…
