Playoffs !

Yay! The Bayes All-Start won their fifth and final match of the intramural basketball season this Thursday! With a 3-2 win/loss record we have thus qualified for the playoffs. No details have been announced so far, but we’ll probably have our first playoff game on Thursday. I’m hoping that we will be able to step up some more, since we’ll have a hard time otherwise…
Oh, and as suggested by our teammate Todd, we’ll all grow a playoff beard — which our girlfriends are not quite happy about.

Sunday by the beach

After some rather busy and stressful days, Teiko and I decided that we should take some time off and do something together. Hence we drove up to Santa Monica this Sunday and spent the afternoon there. We walked down the main street and took a stroll at the beach; it was really nice and we had a great time. Sports update

Last week there was no basketball game for the Bayes All Stars, instead we signed up two teams for the Spring Sports Festival 3-on-3 basketball tournament. Unfortunately our two teams had to play against each other in the very first round already. In the end the team I was on won the match, but we were subsequently defeated in the semi-finals. It was still a fun event, though, and everyone got a free shirt.
This Thursday we had our next intramural league game and again we were defeated. We’ve since done some sort of analysis and believe our losses were mostly caused by a lack of coordination. We have therefore discussed some tactical ideas and devised some plays and routines, which will hopefully help us against the stronger teams — although it might take some time to implement them in practice… Anyway, we have the season’s final match next week, after which we’ll hopefully be qualified for the playoffs. Keep your fingers crossed.

On a more positive note, UCI’s men’s volleyball team has recently won the national championship! Way to go, Anteaters!

Victorious, again!

Our second basketball match went well, too. We caught a good day and, with a strong defensive effort, came to a 50:20 success. Yeah! We have our next game tomorrow, our opponents have also won their first two matches — it should be more of a challenge, so keep your fingers crossed for us.
